8 Boston Oddities

Boston is one of the oldest cities in America, and with that comes some quirks. Locals love to share their favorite oddities about this city, but it can be hard to know where to start if you're new here.

That's why we've put together 8 Boston Oddities that are sure to both educate and entertain any visitor or resident.

  1. Edgar Allan Poe Statue

If you're a fan of the macabre, then you'll want to check out the Edgar Allan Poe statue in

Boston. Stefanie Rocknak created this work as part of a public art project and unveiled it in 2014.

It's located on Boylston Street near the intersection with Charles Street South. Poe's stories and poems heavily influenced Rocknak, so it's no surprise that the statue is as eerie as it is.

  1. Hood Milk Bottle

If you're ever in Boston and want to take a photo that's out of the ordinary, then look no further than Mayfair street. This is where you'll find an old milk bottle from Hood Dairy, which has been repurposed into a mailbox for cars!

You can find this Boston oddity at the intersection of Mayfair street and Huntington Avenue, but don't even think about taking a selfie with it! This one is strictly for fans of strange landmarks or photo enthusiasts!

  1. U-Bench at Jamaica Pond

This is one of the strangest Boston oddities that you're sure to fall in love with. The U-Bench at Jamaica Pond has been a local landmark and one of the best Boston tourist attractions for several decades now.

But it's recently gotten some attention due to its strange design and shape!

  1. Warren Anatomical Museum

This museum is a real oddity in Boston, and it's one that you'll want to check out if you're ever in the area. Found on the campus of Harvard Medical School, this collection contains over 15,000 human anatomical specimens!

  1. Museum of Bad Art

If you're ever in the mood to see some of the worst art in the world, then head on over to

Somerville and check out the Museum of Bad Art.

This small museum is home to pieces that have been rejected by other museums or galleries due to their poor quality.

  1. The Potato Shed Memorial

Located on the Boston Common, this Boston attraction honors two men killed in a tragic

accident while constructing a potato shed back in 1864. The memorial's name is somewhat misleading as it's not made out of potatoes!

Instead, some ceramic statues depict what the building would have looked like had it been constructed.

  1. Nira Rock Urban Wild

The Nira Rock Urban Wild is a unique park unlike anything else in the city. This area was once entirely covered by an old rock quarry, but it has been transformed into a lush forest! This park is worth checking out if you want to experience something different while on vacation or visiting Boston.

  1. The Paul Revere House

This historic site is where the famous patriot and messenger lived for many years. It's one of the oldest buildings in Boston and is now open to the public as a museum. If you're interested in history, then this is a great site to check out!

There you have it, the top Boston oddities that you won't want to miss. These strange landmarks and historic sites are a unique part of this city so special.
